Born in Cianjur, West Java, Agus Wijaya is an Indonesian artist of Chinese background living and working in Sydney. His practice examines the structures through which personal and cultural identities are constructed.
Drawing on familial references alongside political and belief formations, he approaches situations where violence, extraction and power are encountered as lived conditions and negotiated through narrative.
Working across digital abstraction, experimental sculpture and installation, Wijaya employs subtle irreverence to test strategies of identification and dis-identification. His work attends to moments where dominant frameworks show strain, registering glitches between ways of knowing and seeing.
